FAQs
Bespoke Design
How much does it cost?
My most basic designs tend to start at $1500, but that all depends on multiple factors like your gold karat of choice, your finger size, the complexity of the design, the stone type and size among other things. To get a general idea about the average price range, please take the time to browse my Ready Made collection.
How long does bespoke design take?
You should allow a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks for your ring to be completed, however that time may vary greatly depending on the complexity of the design you want done. Once we talk, I’ll be able to give you a more accurate time estimate based on your needs.
Please note that the Christmas and wedding seasons are a busy time for jewelers, which may mean slightly extended production times. If you’ll need a piece finished by Christmas or the summer, please get in touch as soon as possible to avoid rush problems.
Where do I start?
Start by thinking about what you’d want in your forever ring? Finding inspiration online is a great way to start. When you see a photo you like, try to articulate the exact emotions and/ or visuals that appeal to you in it. Save your absolute favorite image that inspires you and make sure that you share them with me during our meeting.
If you don’t know what you want yet, that’s ok too. We can figure it out together. Perhaps start by browsing my Ready Made section and seeing what appeals to you there.
Next, book a consultation here. As you’re booking, you’ll be able to fill out a bespoke design questionnaire, which will help me better understand your bespoke design needs.
I want to propose to my partner with a custom ring, can you help with that?
Absolutely! We’ll need to find out her favorite style and ring size to begin with.
If you know what she likes, this will be an easy process. If you’re unsure about her likes and dislikes try finding out by checking out her Pinterest page or Instagram liked photos.
I want to propose to my partner, but I also want to go thought this fun process along with her, what do I do?
That’s one lucky lady! Many women now a days are more involved in the design of their engagement rings, and for a good reason. This is something she’ll have to live with for the rest of her life, and hopefully someday pass it down to a loved one.
Something this important should be an expression of the two of you Here are a couple of ideas that may help you keep the romantic gesture but also include your significant other in the design of her ring:
Propose with a stone: To keep the proposal a surprise, many partners are choosing to propose with a stunning stone instead of a fully made ring. I’ll be happy supply a selection of stones based on you budget and preferences and provide a beautiful box for your proposal.
Propose with a promise ring: A great way to have the best of both worlds is to buy a simple ring that can become a reminder of this special time forever. After the proposal, you can start this fun and intimate process with her along side of you every step of the way. This idea is perfect if you’re unsure about your lady’s preferences, instead of committing to a stone with out her input.
I’ll be happy to help you select a simple ring that will dazzle her for your proposal. Alternatively, you can visit us at the store where our amazing staff will happily help you out!
Why do you charge a non-refundable design consultation fee?
After I get a clearer idea about your design requirements during our first consultation meeting, I will dedicate my time to sourcing gemstones* as well as designing and sketching several design options for you. A fee of $250 will be required at that stage.
This fee will be credited towards your ring price and deducted from your final payment. It is non-refundable in the case of the project’s non-completion.
The fee goes towards my time spent designing so that I’m able to offer you:
3 high quality hand sketched design options based on your vision and inspiration
3 to 5 stone options depending on the intricacies of the designs. **
Up to 3 complimentary meetings to talk about your requirements, view stones, review your computer model ***
* If you are using heirloom gemstones, you’ll get up to 5 instead of 3 design options to choose from.
** The stones will be held for you for 5 days while you consider the options after which they will be made available for sale again.
*** Further meetings to inspect the 3D print or casting will require a nominal fee of $40 per hour.
Can I have one of your existing designs restyled for my wedding?
Of course, you can! I can make any design you see here in the gemstone, gold color and karat of your choice. Just start your customization process by booking a consultation here.
I like a ring I saw online, can you copy it?
I never copy or recreate other designers’ work, but I will gladly work at incorporating your favorite design elements into my signature aesthetic, which is hopefully why you’re here and considering working with me.
If you’ve seen a ring you like online, try thinking about what interests you the most about it. Try to articulate the exact emotions and/ or visuals that appeal to you in its design. Make sure you have a copy of the photo that you can share with me, and I’ll be happy to start there for your ring inspiration.
Can you use my gold/ gemstones to make a custom piece?
Yes I can! However, that depends on the heirloom jewelry you want to recycle. I deal with these requests on a case by case bases, but here’s the gist.
Your jewelry must be clearly marked or stamped with its karat value, and it must be solid gold only. Preferably a piece that’s been cast and not soldered together. Unfortunately, at this time I do not work with platinum.
Mixed metals can not simply be melted and reused, they would have to be sent to a refinery. If your jewelry consists of mixed metals, I will only be able to trade it in at scrap value. Its dollar value will be calculated as credit that goes towards your final custom design price.
Some stones might be too fragile to be safely taken out of their settings and therefore might not survive the process. That’s why I only accept jewelry with durable stones like diamonds and sapphires. If upon inspection my setter or I notice any potential problem areas, we might not be able to un-set your stone. Depending on the nature of the setting, we charge an average of $5/ stone for un-setting.
If your piece is a good candidate for physical recycling, there will be a $50 + HST flask fee charged by my caster.
As a general rule, there should be enough metal to account for the casting channels and funnel (we call those the sprues and button). if you are specific about not mixing your heirloom gold with new gold, you’ll need to provide enough gold for the “extras” of the casting process.
That said, please note that even with solid gold, recycling an old piece may invite unwanted quality problems like internal porosity or external flaking. Because we don’t know the exact alloy content of your gold, we may not be able to guarantee the results all the time. I take extra care when working with customers’ gold inspecting the piece closely through out the polishing and finishing process (which is when porosity problems usually appear) but please be advised that you are taking that risk when working with recycled gold.
If you want to recycle an heirloom piece that is dear to you, please make sure you bring it with you to our meeting. I’d love to take a look at it and give you a more accurate answer. If you are out of town, you can ship the piece to me for evaluation, and I’ll take it from there.
Can I change my mind about some design details?
When you work with me, you’ll get access to a password protected project page here on the website where you’ll get to see photos and videos of your ring being made.
You can change your mind about small details anytime before we get to the Manufacturing Phase. Just get in touch with me as soon as you think of the changes you’d like made and I’ll be happy to accommodate you when ever possible.

Are all your designs one of a kind?
The basis of the bespoke process starts with you, your unique taste and lifestyle dictate a great deal of the design. The center stone also brings a lot of character to a ring, and no two natural gemstones are alike. This is what will make your ring as unique as you are.
That being said, I can and do re-create any of my previous designs, unless the customer it was designed for has payed an exclusivity premium. If you are interested in taking your ring design off the market, we can discuss that further during our consultation meeting.
What is the gold content in your rings?
I currently work exclusively with gold. I work with all gold colors (yellow, rose and white) and most gold karats. Although I would be able to better recommend the best karat and color based on your lifestyle and preference once we have a chat.
To learn more about gold colors and karat alloys, check out this brief post.
Can you do custom shank engravings?
Absolutely! Many of our brides choose to engrave the name of their beloved, the date of their wedding, or any other meaningful phrase on the inside of their ring shanks. We can even engrave your hand writing or finger prints! I love these beautiful gestures and would be happy to keep that in mind while designing your bespoke ring. All you have to do is ask!
If you’re asking for a ring from our Ready Made collection, please shoot me an email letting me know the name of the ring you’re considering and what you’re thinking about engraving and I’ll be happy to help.
Do you offer appraisals?
I always include a complimentary general appraisal for pieces priced at $2000 and above.
If you’re ring price ends up under $2000 but you’d still like an appraisal just let me know and I’ll be happy to get it appraised for you for a small fee ($50 to $100 depending on the appraiser’s fee).
Do you make men’s wedding bands?
Unfortunately, at this time I only work on women’s jewelry, but I’m more than happy to recommend a list of colleagues who would be delighted to help you with all your men’s jewelry needs.
Do you work with international customers?
Absolutely! Technology makes this process possible from anywhere in the world. I hold virtual meetings with my clients via Zoom, and am able to send high quality photos and videos of gemstones, wax models and castings whenever needed.
If you’re out of town and see a design you’d like to create for yourself, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to work with you!
